How Long is the Gestation Period for Dogs

As a dog owner one of the most important things we should know about our dogs is their health. It is very important to learn when your female dog begins to go into heat and what you can do to help her through the process. The first thing you need to know is that your dog will go into heat twice a year which will last usually about 3 weeks. But what happens while she is in her heat cycle and she breeds with a male dog? If you have an idea that your dog could be pregnant the smart thing to do would be to take her to your local veterinarian  to find out. Gestation is the period when the young are developing in the mother’s uterus. In dogs, this period usually lasts about 9 weeks ( 63 days). However, the puppies could be delivered between 58 and 68 days. I understand that this process may be hard on some dog owners, but here is some information about a dog’s pregnancy and what you should know: 1. Diagnosis There are no blood or urine tests available to confirm whether your dog is pregnant. The earliest time of diagnosis may be about [...]

But the question is how do I go about doing this? How do I find out what is safe and what is not safe for my dog? or what even goes into safety proofing my house for my dog? Here is a list of potential hazards to your dog: 1. House Cleaners – Items such as bleach, detergents, over cleaners, soap and many more. All of these have different levels of toxicity and may cause harm to your dog it touched or consumed. Keep all these cleaners in their bottles and make sure to store the bottles out of reach or in a locked cabinet. Keep in mind that some dogs are able to open normal cabinets. 2. Chemicals - Items include automotive fluids (especially antifreeze), fertilizers, moth balls, weed killers, and much more. These are very toxic to your dog. Preventing and Managing NJ Dog Aggression

Some dog owners in NJ do not realize the methods or are scared of dealing with their dogs aggressive behavior. It is important to know that you and your dog will have a much better relationship if you know how to properly control their temper. The more information we can gather about our dogs the better we can improve their existence and their behavior. When it comes to aggression there are two very distinctive kinds: Self-Protective Aggression and Territorial Aggression. To give you a better understanding of the two let’s go over what each one encompasses. 1. Self-Protective Aggression: This happens when a dog shows aggression towards strangers, such as other dogs or people, who come into their personal space, such as inside the home or when walking away from the home. Some people may confuse this with territorial aggression, it is more self-serving and fear-based. This kind of behavior can be seen early. A puppy may be approached by a well intentioned person, but he/she may misread that as a predatory approach. This is a common form of aggression. Puppies and adult dogs generally look to their people for reassurance, but many owners are not trained for that specific reaction. Basic [...]
