I know many dog owners and dogs who may feel this is a daunting task because neither one likes having to deal with it. Being the owner you may get frustrated because your dog is not cooperating with you and for the dog he/she notices your frustration and may become reluctant to being groomed. So what do you do now? How can you get your dog groomed without it being a negative experience for the both of you? Here are a few tips that may be helpful in properly grooming your dog, but having fun with it at the same time. 1. Brushing: Many dogs enjoy being brushed because they enjoy how it feels. This also helps to create a positive bond with your dog. It also gives you a chance to look over your dogs skin and coat. As the owner you should look for anything unusual such as lumps under the skin, sores, dull or flaky skin, rashes, and bald spots. If you do find anything unusual talk to your veterinarian about it as soon as you can. 2. Brushing [...]

Dog Safety 101 During Winter in NJ

For those of us who live in the colder climates we take the safety precautions in preparing for the winter season, such as putting snow tires on our cars, getting out our warmest clothing and jackets, and making sure to wear hats, scarves, and mittens when going outside. However, what do owners do for their pets during the winter time? Is there anything in particular that we must do to keep our pets safe and warm from the harsh cold winters that we may suffer through? 1. Make sure to use a pet friendly ice melter in areas where pets will be walking, something that is salt-free and chloride-free, such as Morton Safe-T-Pet. Check your local petsmart or petco because they may carry something in stock. 2. When walking your dog outside make sure to limit that time, especially when temperatures drop below the freezing point. 3. Please keep your pets on a leash, they may become disoriented or lost when their familiar surrounds are not longer famialier to them such as being covered with snow. 4.  When you bring your dogs inside make sure to wipe their paws with a nice warm washcloth after walking on the ice and [...]
