Dog Survives Gas Chamber, Up for Adoption in Rockaway, NJ

A stray beagle that cheated death in a dog pound in Alabama is now up for adoption in New Jersey. Volunteers have been looking for a new home for the beagle names Daniel after the dog was able to walk out unharmed from the carbon monoxide administered by the Animal Control Department in Florence, Ala. on October 3rd.

The dog was flown here to New Jersey by the nonprofit Eleventh Hour Rescue group, where he is in a Rockaway shelter, waiting to be adopted.

People are not sure why the dog was the lone survivor, some speculate that God has a plan for him.

The gas chamber is a stain-less steel box that is about the size of a pickup truck bed. The pump is computer controlled that slowly feeds carbon monoxide into the chamber once it is sealed, then an operator will press a button.

The dog was placed into the chamber with other animals by a new operator, it is not clear how many animals were in the chamber or what species they were.

In the last 12 years or so only three animals have survived the gas chamber and every effort is made to find new homes for the ones that do survive.

Apparently Alabama lawmakers passed a law in June that bans the use of gad champers to be effective Dec. 31. At that time, Florence was one of only two places in the state using the chambers.
